Displacement Avoidance Team to Launch In Deep East Oakland

At the end of 2020, the City of Oakland, EB PREC and a host of partners were awarded one of the California Strategic Growth Council's Transformative Climate Communities (TCC) grants.  We are so excited to be part of this team and put our special sauce on the program's Displacement Avoidance effort, grounding it in community outreach, education, and organizing in and for Deep East Oakland.

East Oakland's iteration of the TCC program, known as "Better Neighborhoods, Same Neighbors," was inspired by the East Oakland Neighborhood Initiative (EONI) and features many programs developed by its community-driven process.

Fully formed as of this month, help us welcome our BNSN Displacement Avoidance Plan (DAP) Team: Project Manager Bee Coleman (they/them) and Community Organizers Scott Ortega-Nanos (he/him) and Chris Chew (they/them) -- seriously, they're incredible! The DAP Team is ready to hit the ground running in 2022 -- canvassing, attending community events, providing and connecting residents to city, state, and non-profit resources, and creating a supportive framework for resident-to-resident organizing. To this end, we are exploring creative ways to physically ground our anti-displacement operations in the heart of deep East Oakland. Our TCC team is dedicated to expanding the growth of community-based power in East Oakland, including building EB PREC membership around policy advocacy, community healing and land sovereignty.

If you or anyone you know is a tenant, homeowner or business owner within the project area (pictured above), reach out to EB PREC’s DAP Team at here2stay@ebprec.org for support staying rooted in Deep East.
