How to show up in this mo(ve)ment

Can you believe we’ve been sheltering in place for five months now?! It feels like yesterday when we organized the #PledgeYourCheck Campaign with the Law Center to demonstrate mutual support and solidarity with other coops and mutual aid groups. Since then, we’ve done so much which only proves that there are many ways to show up in this mo(ve)ment.

Mutual Aid

Mutual aid is about solidarity, not charity. And that means you gotta be plugged into community groups to know where to send donations. EB PREC's Covid19 Scenario Planning Fund is democratically managed by our staff collective.

Anyone from our staff collective can nominate a group to share money with. So far, we've donated to groups including the People’s Community Medics, Planting Justice, and the Village. We also donated $1,000 to help save the Warriors House!

Building Community Ecosystems

In April, we launched a series of Scenario Planning community calls to strategize for land liberation in a rapidly-changing landscape. Between COVID, growing inequality and the ongoing Uprising, 2020 has called forth new ways of organizing, building, and being.

Over 7 sessions across 12 weeks, we surveyed the past, present, and future possibilities around land & housing across the East Bay. Our biggest community learning: #LandWithoutLandlords calls for organizing entire ecosystems of capital and land. Learn more in our Scenario Planning zine, dropping in October!

In our next phase of community power-building, we are holding Community Exchange sessions to build with key partners, community members, and allies in land & housing justice. Check out our first live Community Exchange Call with Organizer & Movement Builder for Black Land Liberation Zachary Murray.

Movement 4 Black Lives

As a Black-led organization, we’ve been actively co-creating and sharing our vision for land liberation and community control in this unprecedented moment. Our Director Noni Session represented EB PREC at the House of Ease’s Virtual Juneteenth Celebration and at the Community Democracy Project’s Community Control Planning Hour. We also published a blog about how the movement to abolish police is directly connected with the movement for universal housing.
