Welcoming TWO new projects to the family: the BARN & PIPPIN St.

EB PREC Community Owners recently voted to approve the acquisition and liberation of two new projects. We're incredibly excited to share that we closed escrow on both properties over the last two weeks!

The Barn
is located right next to Esther's Orbit Room and is part of our larger mission to revive and activate the 7th St. Corridor in West Oakland. We envision using the Barn as a space for meeting, organizing, and creating.

Pippin St. is our first multi-unit property, and completes our residential project goal of acquiring a 5-25 unit property. Ownership of the building, which houses BIPOC residents who have lived there for 10+ years, has been passed from one absentee investor to another for years and leaving it in a state of disrepair. We're excited to begin the process of welcoming Pippin St.'s residents into our cooperative and working together to co-create a dignified standard of living for all of our new Resident Owners!

Keep an eye out for upcoming community events at both locations!

EB PREC is looking for Artists and Black business Operators to co-create & activate a cooperative business model for the Esther's Orbit Room Cultural Arts Center at West Oakland's Historic 7th Street Corridor. We're revitalizing the Esther's Orbit Room stage, bar, and commercial kitchen in addition to launching an artist's gallery and yoga/healing/movement studio next door. We're hosting an online orientation this Friday at 5pm where you'll have the opportunity to:

  • Familiarize yourself with the Esther's Orbit Room Business Plan, Mission and Vision.
  • Access our ONLINE Tour and learn more about available spaces inside Esther's Orbit Room.
  • Learn how you can contribute to decisions about Esther's business model and development.

RSVP FOR OPERATOR ORIENTATION

EB PREC is also actively looking for food operators: one anchor operator and four emerging operators to join our cooperative and activate Esther's Orbit Room. Click here to view the RFP. Know anyone who might be a good fit? Please share the RFP with your networks, applications close in 10 days!

Introducing the Just Transition Integrated Capital Fund!

The Just Transition Integrated Capital Fund (JTIC Fund) Governing Board members (which includes EB PREC) came together as a new model for philanthropy. We have been working to get at the root of where we can shift power and capital to movements. One of our latest visionary endeavors was drafting and adopting an Investment Policy Statement that is unlike any other.

We're thrilled to share our newly released JTIC Fund Investment Policy Statement (IPS) with you!

The IPS outlines investment strategies, priorities, and terms for the JTIC Fund, which is a democratically controlled integrated capital fund governed by five movement partners. Our goal is to move endowed assets to BIPOC and working class controlled funds and grassroots projects through non-extractive financing in the form of 0% loans and accompanying grants.

Check out the JTIC Fund IPS to learn how we're reimagining returns, financial and social impact, risk mitigation, and fiduciary responsibilities for trustees and investment committee members. We hope this will serve as an open-source learning tool for other democratically controlled investment funds and philanthropic institutions exploring how they are going to define their investment policies.
