What's Going On, We People - EB PREC September Recap
While in Crisis Intervention, we are also in Cultural Transformation. There is no doubt that the center of collective land stewardship is You!
A comrad, Joy Chiu, in attendance of EBPREC's founding organization, People of Color Sustainable Housing Network (POCSHN)'s Living in Community Retreat this last labor day weekend, articulated beautifully that the collective work of building safe spaces is the “new Underground Railroad of our times”.
She says, “We all have different gifts to contribute to the emergent whole of a vast infrastructure project" including Resource Village PopUps, Rural/Urban Housing Time-Shares, and Collective Strategic Land & Business Co-Stewardship. Please read more of Joy's words here and share your thoughts!
Whats going on, My Heart, My People?
The Staff Collective at EBPREC is really excited by the conversations we've been having, and the work we've been doing. We are really excited that We is actually going to mean WE, like YOU and ME, really soon. If you haven't already, please fill out the pledge to become a Community Owner, we will be reaching out to you all very soon about making things official. The movement for permanent affordability is heating up!
Brief Reminder of what we are here for:

(1) Serve Black and Indigenous
(2) Freak the finance / Rework the tools
(3) Nonviolent governance so we can live!
PAST GOINGS ON

We had a staff retreat!
EBPREC is gearing up for our founding anchor member launch and we took a weekend to map out what we need to do organizationally and interpersonally to get there.
We want you to be a part of the permanence movement: Democratized real estate investments and Community control of land.
EBPREC is the tool that, literally, gives a whole community the ability to invest in real estate and determine the character of their neighborhood. Everyone in the community can throw money in the pot, no matter how small, and everyone has the ability to vote & advise which properties EBPREC develops.Sign up to be a Community Owner if you haven't already.

As you all may recall, some of our initial growth capital came from Capital Impact Partners. Noni, Greg & Ojan made a presentation at Capital Impact Partners Offices on the progress of our work; And we want to show you too. Take a look!

Potential Property: Project 789.
The staff collective has tenant buy in, talked to the landlord, did a property walk through and we are talking to banks.
Relationship to Property
Let us remind you fam, beloved community, PEOPLE are the magic ingredient of our model. It does not work quite the same with nonprofit, large scale, or other institutional investors. It works with all of us. Every time we communicate we are reminding we of our Principles.

Marissa & Greg with Chris of SELC, Zach Murray of Oakland CLT, Needa B of The Village present in spirit & Deseree Fontenot of Movement Generation facilitating @ SOl2SOl Solidarity to Solutions
This workshop highlighted successful stories of how Oakland-based grassroots groups rooted in economic development are reclaiming land, applying their labor to meet community needs on that land, and utilizing land trusts and other structures to protect it forever.
We made this video for a grant application to give an overview of EB PREC. What do you think?
